When most parents have a baby, they spend months dreaming about what their bundle of joy will look like. Will she looks like Mom? Will she have Dad's eyes? His mother's nose? Her aunt's cheekbones?
For one local Navy family (Mr & Mrs Wetmore) however, the birth of their daughter didn't give them the answers to those questions. Their daughter Juliana was born without face.

Her birth defect is called Treacher Collins Syndrome, Doctors say it's the worst case they've ever seen. She has cost the taxpayers three millions dollars for surgeries and heroic life-saving measures. Little Juliana is missing 30-40 percent of the bones in her face and she had 45 surgeries already.

But despite her medical challenges, Juliana remains positive and bright spirit. Now 12 years old, Juliana is happy living with her family in Texas where she goes to school, plays with her friends and enjoys things like watching movies, playing on the computer and playing with her sister.

During its two year run, the project will award approximately 100 major reporting grants and provide mentoring to support the best ideas for stories on development issues. Journalists who produce the best stories published or broadcasted in media that reach African audiences, will win a major international reporting trip.
